about

Having started out as an in demand purveyor of jungle and drum n bass, Brisbane based production veteran Michael Hogg displays an adventurousness and level of attention to detail as Low Key Operations which is often all too absent in his deep house contemporaries. Simple yet bursting with detail, the Labourday EP embodies an ethos that aims to avoid the pitfalls of in the box production and instead fuses the best of both worlds, incorporating classic Roland/Boss effects, MPC drum programming and more contemporary sounds from Reaktor amongst other tools.

The staccato bass line in the titular track is perhaps the obvious giveaway as to what’s at play and is by far the punchiest, most floor ready of the tracks on offer. ‘Below’ and ‘Landmark’ are both by comparison far brighter and more uplifting yet no less physically engaging. Those inclined to dive deeper still may prefer the languor and airiness of ‘Post Valentine’, which evokes lazy, sunny Sundays with a cool drink in hand. Yet another stellar release from Buxton Records.

DJ Supports: Supernature, Atjazz, Jozif, Jon Charnis, Jay Tripwire, Death On The Balcony.
