Another emotive slow burner of an EP for Buxton Records, Shapes In Water brings reverb-drenched piano, droning organ and dub vibes for warm up sets to the fore. As a first release for Brisbane newcomer Ben Milgate – aka Islands – it sets a high benchmark raised only further by remixes from talented DJ/producers Trinity (Sydney – Nightime Drama) and Tristen (Berlin – AIM/White).

True to its name, the titular track is evocative of pensive, moody days, becoming more insistently energetic courtesy of subtle hi-hat patterns under Trinity’s guiding hand. By contrast ‘Nights With Lucid’ proves a little more uplifting yet no less woozy, which when lent a heavier beat from Tristen, becomes altogether more physically captivating. Perhaps the most playful of the three original tracks on offer ‘You’ is by far the happiest of the lot, leaning on gentle melodies and subtle pads to great effect.
